Is it thyroid cancer or not?

So a palpable nodule was found on my thyroid almost a month ago. It is also big enough that if you know where your looking, you can see it. I had an ultrasound done to confirm it and the report basically says it is a singular solid nodule that is almost the size of one lobe. My TSH, T3, and T4 are all normal. The lymph nodes on that side of my neck are also swollen. So I had a FNA biopsy done earlier this week and got the results back today. The results said that it was "highly suspicious for follicular cancer", and my doctor is sending me to a surgeon about removing the entire thyroid BUT I point blank asked him if it was cancer and he said they are not sure. WTF? Then why are you wanting to take the whole thing?? Anytime I asked point blank he would say that no biopsy will report a definite yes or no and that I still have a 50/50 shot of it not being cancer??? But every time id ask him a general question about it he would say it was cancer. I know its likely because my mom had it but I don't want them to take my whole thyroid unless its a clear YES but he says we wont get a clear yes until its out. Is this how biopsy's usually go? Is it still a 50/50 shot at malignancy? Should I just say its cancer? None of this sounds right to me. I don't want them to take the whole thing if its not and I DO NOT want some kinda hope if its not there. Does anyone have a similar experience?
