What kind of Knife sharpeners should I get?

I have several extremely dull knives and I don't really know much about sharpening supplies. I was told to get a leather strop and a Bench-stone. The only problem is that there are several types of each product and I'm not sure which kind would be best. I was told Arkansas Stone is what I should get but again there are different types of that. So if someone could tell me what I need that would be much appreciated.
